Strange Boarders**

(GB 1938)

An intelligence officer is ordered away from his honeymoon to root out a network of enemy agents hidden in a Notting Hill boarding house.
Quite engaging comedy thriller in the realm of The Thin Man, with an interesting array of talents, both forgotten British names of the past and more familiar character actors.

Producer: Edward Black.
Director: Herbert Mason.
Starring: Tom Walls, Renee Saint-Cyr, Googie Withers, Ronald Adam, C.V. France, Leon M. Lion, Irene Handl, Bernard Miles, Martita Hunt.

The Entity*

(US 1981)

A California single mother suddenly finds herself attacked and raped by an unseen psychic force.
Based on a true incident, and trying to adopt  a certain real life tone, although with annoyingly cliched script elements and hysterical moments of horror (on a par with Suspiria but not as excessive.)

Written by: Frank De Felitta, from his novel.
Producer: Harold Schneider.
Director: Sidney J. Furie.
Starring: Barbara Hershey, Ron Silver, George Coe, David Labiosa, Margaret Blye, Jacqueline Brookes, Alex Rocco.
Photography: Stephen H. Burum.
Music: Charles Bernstein.

The Decent One**

(Ger/Austria/Israel 2014)

Selection of narrated letters and records of Heinrich Himmler, as recovered by US soldiers in 1945.
A static but compelling cinema experience, relying mainly on the chillingly human aspects of Himmler's character (and of his relatives), with lots of hard work and well resourced archive footage providing background for the readings.

Written by: Vanessa Lapa, Ori Weisbrod.
Producer/Director: Vanessa Lapa.
Voices of Tobias Moretti, Sophie Rois, Antonia Moretti, and others.
Photography: Hermann Poelking-Eiken.
Music: Daniel Salomon, Jonathan Sheffer, Gil Feldman.
Editing: Noam Amit, Sharon Brook.

The Seventh Veil***

(GB 1945)

A concert pianist attempts suicide, and a psychiatrist unlocks her mind to discover which of the three men in her life she truly belongs with.
Stylish romantic melodrama within the then fashionable aura of classical music for this kind of film, a big hit for its stars who practically glow in the cinematography. The ending didn't please everyone, but that didn't stop it becoming a huge commercial success.

Written by: Muriel Box, Sydney Box.
Producer: Sydney Box.
Director: Compton Bennett.
Starring: Ann Todd, James Mason, Herbert Lom, Hugh McDermott, Albert Lieven, Yvonne Owen.
Photography: Reg Wyer.
Music: Benjamin Frankel.
