The Dark Knight* (12A)
Electric Palace, Harwich
Gotham City's gangland is taken over by a psychotic terrorist named The Joker, who then guns for Batman and D.A. Harvey Dent.
A remarkable but thoroughly unattractive "entertainment" where even the hero is painted as villain by the end, overreaching the serious tone of Batman Begins in a largely unintelligible narrative. Perhaps the apogee of comic books wanting to be taken seriously, trying to uncomfortably fit familiar characters within the context of the modern war on terror. Even though its main villain is called The Joker (whose actor arguably died because of this role), there is not a single moment of light relief.
d: Christopher Nolan
s: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhardt, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Eric Roberts, Chin Han, Anthony Michael Hall

I agree. Plus, what was up with Maggie G's hair!
never mind her hair, check out her wiggly ass!
great cinema,if you ask me...
but i digress,
what did you think of the film, joe?
i rate this film in my top five,of all time, having been thoroughly captivated the whole way through.
there is humour to be found,i think... you just have to see through the relentless terror to find it.
i don't believe any connections were made to ledgers death because of his performance as the joker, especially as he had begun work on another film by the time of his death...
gary oldman stole the show,it would be great to see an oscar nom for best supporting.
It's one of the few films where I wanted to walk out, I disliked it so much. 'Schindler's List' had more funny moments than this.
I think the intensity of Heath Ledger's performance undoubtedly had an effect on him, which contributed to his overdose.
The way film schedules are, I suspect he was doing post-syncing on TDK whilst shooting had started on the Terry Gilliam film - so he was never really free of The Joker in him.
I agree that you don't think about it being his last film while you're watching it.
I see now it's *not* his last film: the Terry Gilliam film will have his character 're-generated' with himself and other actors - Jude Law and Johnny Depp among them.
Wiggly ass? Looked a bit frumpy to me! Gwyneth had her beat by a mile-high stiletto!!
Oh yes! Gwyneth is lovely. :)
..which reminds me, I have a DVD called "View From the Top" starring Ms. Paltrow - its sitting on the shelf, still waiting to be watched. She is an air hostess in this one. :)
