Peter Quill, aka. "Starlord" leads a band of intergalactic heroes against the mighty Ronan in the quest for a powerful orb.
Junky but jocular comic strip science fantasy modelled somewhat on The (Marvel) Avengers, and all too much to take in, but with an occasional nice line in deprecating 80s humour.

Written by: James Gunn, Nicole Perlman, based on the Marvel comic books.

We have yet to see this, and I'm looking forward to it, but I'm happy to see that the vast majority of people I know have absolutely *loved* it, enough to see it multiple times. Did it have a "Star Wars" feel/vibe for you? Also, did you enjoy the post credits scene, and that Marvel/Lucasfilm link? :)

I went to see it out of nostalgia for the comics that used to share with 'Star Wars Weekly', although there was little to connect with the Guardians of the Galaxy, or the Starlord of the 70s that I remember - except the backstory about his mother, which I wanted to see more of.

Curious that they decided to give the story so much 80s nostalgia, when to me GOTG is a 70s creature - or strictly speaking, a 1960s strip - it started in 1969.

I'm not surprised that Sid the Duck(Goose) was pleased to see another Duck appear at the end! ;)
