Rollerball**

(US 1975)

In an ultra violent sport of the corporate future, its star player becomes too powerful for his bosses' liking.
Forceful futuristic sports drama reflecting more - like A Clockwork Orangeon the social conditions of the 1970s at the time, in rather more palatably entertaining style. The sports action is vividly captured, and contrasts well with the softer decadent atmosphere away from the track, but the film lacks a definite focus or background about the society it creates.

Written by: William Harrison, from his short story.

+ HOUSTON TEAM EXECUTIVE (Shane Rimmer): "Game? This wasn't meant to be a game!"

A very entertaining (if brutal in places!)sci-fi film from Norman Jewison. I've always enjoyed watching this; the look and feel is brilliant. The scene at the party where they blow up the trees is very chilling to me, I guess that's the "70's save the environment" scene....a popular theme in sci-fi at the time, which you can see in films like "Silent Running", which I see you saw again recently.

Oh, I didn't bother with the pointless remake.

The moment that struck me was when the entire world is focused on the last Rollerball game. The World Cup is rather like that nowadays.
