The Seventh Seal*** (PG)
Norwich Playhouse

A knight returning from the Crusades to his plague-ridden homeland, is confronted by Death, and challenges him to a game of chess; a game he knows he will lose, but stalls sufficiently to save a young couple from the same fate.
Superb allegorical drama by Bergman, with lots of his own philosophies about death and life along the way. Still highly influential in its style, the images alone belie any shortcomings with the foreign language.

s: Max Von Sydow, Bengt Ekerot, Gunnar Bjornstrand, Bibi Andersson, Nils Poppe, Erick Strandmark, Inga Gil, Gunnel Lindblom, Inda Langre
d: Ingmar Bergman.

might i suggest a change in structure to your comments,ie make them a little bit more personal...it feels like i'm reading a review from the colchester gazette of each film, not from the mind of joe sales...

I know what you mean Jamie.

The fact is that I tend to keep personal observations, such as they are, in my own hand-written diary. I just don't have the time to do that sort of thing on computer as well, so the reviews (for that's what they are in effect) are usually fairly concise, and where possible I like to give credit to the technical side of things (photography, production design, etc.)

Having that said, the "100 FAVOURITE FILMS" blogpage IS a more personal reflection on films, for which I recommend to you.

I love your little reviews done this way! Did you enjoy the Norwich playhouse? Have you been to the Phoenix Arts centre cinema in Leicester? Maybe we could check that out sometime. Hope all is well!
